On February 23, 2024, a 59-year-old nurse came to the Westlake Police Department to report that she was a victim of a fraud. While reporting the alleged crime, Patrolman Carman detected the smell of alcohol on the woman's breath. The woman denied consuming alcohol, but she did admit to driving herself to the police station. Police surveillance footage confirmed that the woman drove to the station. Patrolman Carman asked the woman to blow into a portable breath testing device, but she refused. She was then arrested for drunk driving. She was handcuffed and taken inside to the jail, where she performed standardized field sobriety tests. She then blew into an evidential breath testing device and the result was 0.243% BAC. She was charged with Operating a Vehicle Impaired and Having a Prohibited Breath Alcohol Concentration. Her case is still open because she failed to appear to several court appearances.
