Combative Drunk Driver’s Attempt To Fight Deputies Ends In A Disaster Flagler County deputies assisted Bunnell police officers during a traffic stop on a driver who completed an illegal U-turn shortly after 7 p.m. The driver, 56-year-old Richard Lakin, admitted to drinking at a bar prior to driving. After showing obvious signs of intoxication and aggression, officers requested he perform standard field sobriety tests. Lakin became hostile during the evaluation, abandoned the test, and attempted to walk back to the patrol car. When officers attempted to place him under arrest, Lakin physically resisted, resulting in a ground scuffle where three officers sustained minor injuries. An inventory search of his vehicle revealed an open beer container on the floorboard. Lakin was booked into county custody on multiple felony battery and DUI charges.
