A man is in custody and charged with three counts of attempted 1st-degree murder after shooting his wife and exchanging gunfire with Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputies, according to the department. Victoria Rosado, 26, who was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, was shot by her husband, Emmanuel Rosado, 26, in the back of her leg around 12:30 p.m. at 1958 Alameda Drive, according to an email from Sheriff's Office spokesman Gary Davidson. Davidson said in the email, Emmanuel Rosado was charged in the shooting of his wife and at two deputies who came under fire during the incidents. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach and was being held without bond. Upon arrival at the scene, shots were fired through the door and window of the house in the direction of deputies, Davidson said. Two deputies shot back but did not hit the suspect. No deputies were injured. Davidson said in the news release Victoria Rosado had been trying to separate from her husband, but he showed up and locked her in the home and would not let her leave. She sought refuge in her bedroom but told police he continued breaking into the room. Three children, ranging in age from 23 months to 7 years old, were in the house. Victoria Rosado and the kids got out of the house and the gunman followed and was immediately taken into custody, Davidson said. Volusia County Chief Deputy Eric Dietrich said from the scene that deputies responding to the disturbance heard residents screaming inside the home. Officers tried to enter after gunshots rang out from inside. Dietrich said deputies heard someone twice say, “You’re going to die today,” followed by the pleas of children screaming “Please don’t shoot my mom.” When officers approached the residence, someone inside locked the front door and another shot rang out, according to Dietrich. That forced a deputy to retreat and take cover behind a tree as the gunman continued firing. Dietrich said officers returned fire and Emmanuel Rosado eventually surrendered peacefully at the back of the house. Officers rescued the victims through a window. Seann Prestagiacomo, who lives just behind the home, said he was standing in his backyard when officers arrived. “I heard at least 20 shots, I would say, at that point,” Prestagiacomo said. “This was after it all started going off. They (deputies) were there because I could hear them. "They were trying to get him to comply and telling him to come out. Then the shots stopped and they were asking him to come out and put his hands up.” Victoria Rosado was taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for her gunshot wound, which officials did not believe was life threatening. She reportedly underwent surgery later in the day. The couple’s three children were taken to a neighbor’s house. Dietrich said before officers arrived, Victoria Rosado told dispatchers her husband had a 9-mm pistol on his waist and an AR-15 rifle in the house. “So coming here, they knew there was a potential for violence, but that’s something our deputies deal with every day,” he said. “With the recent tragedies in America that have been happening, I feel very fortunate today that we don’t have a deputy that was injured or killed.” Records show Emmanuel Rosado was arrested in Volusia County on Jan. 4, 2015 and charged with battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
