LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — March 6, 2026 California Highway Patrol officers responded to a multi-vehicle collision on the southbound US-101 Hollywood Freeway near Bronson Avenue in Los Angeles. The driver of a Nissan Altima told officers he had been traveling approximately 80 mph before attempting to change lanes and striking another vehicle. The impact caused the Nissan to lose control, collide with another vehicle and ultimately overturn on the freeway. During the DUI investigation, the officer observed red/watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. According to the arrest report, the driver did not perform the field sobriety tests as instructed and demonstrated. The driver's preliminary alcohol screening test results were .088% and .086% BAC. A .088% BAC is 1.10 times California's 0.08% legal limit. Later evidential chemical breath testing reportedly produced samples of .074% and .079% BAC. With the approval from Sergeant S. Cuevas, the subject was cited and released to friend. Because the driver was under 21, the CHP officer recommended the following charges: 23152(A) - DUI Alcohol/Drugs 23136(A) - Driving With .01 Or Greater Blood Alcohol Content 23140 - Minor Driving With BAC Of .05 Or More California Highway Patrol officers involved: Officer J. Melvin ID - 24452 Sergeant S. Cuevas, ID 17037 All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
