#news #police #arrest A former high school counselor in Washington was arrested after an investigation involving a 15-year-old student eventually uncovered additional allegations involving other female students. The investigation began on April 15, 2023, when the family of a 15-year-old girl reported her missing to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office. Not long after making the report, the girl’s family located her approximately a mile away from her home. However, authorities say she wasn’t alone. She was reportedly found with a counselor who worked at Shelton High School. Law enforcement interviewed both the teenager and the counselor that same night. At the time, investigators said they did not have enough information to determine that a crime had occurred. However, authorities didn’t simply close the case. The Mason County Sheriff’s Office notified the Shelton School District about the situation, and the counselor was placed on administrative leave while investigators continued looking into what had happened. The counselor was eventually terminated from his position with the school district as the investigation continued. Detectives from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office worked alongside the Shelton Police Department and the school district to gather additional information. As investigators looked deeper into the counselor’s history, they reportedly discovered that other complaints had been made against him involving allegations of inappropriate contact with additional female students. What initially began as a missing-person report had now developed into a much more serious investigation involving allegations connected to multiple students. After several weeks of investigating, deputies arrested the former counselor on June 2. He was booked into the Mason County Jail and faced several serious charges involving alleged inappropriate conduct with a minor. Authorities also accused him of providing a controlled substance and possessing illegal material involving a minor. The arrest came nearly seven weeks after the 15-year-old student was initially reported missing. Although investigators said they couldn’t establish that a crime had occurred when the teenager and counselor were first interviewed, detectives continued gathering information, working with the school district and investigating additional complaints. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the discovery of allegations involving other female students became another important part of the investigation. Authorities subsequently encouraged anyone with information about additional incidents that had not previously been reported to contact investigators. What began with a family desperately trying to locate their missing 15-year-old ultimately led authorities to investigate a school employee who had been entrusted with working around students. As detectives continued digging, they say additional complaints emerged, eventually resulting in the counselor losing his position and being taken into custody on multiple serious charges.
