Although body camera footage and the arrest report indicate the incident occurred in Palm Beach County, the case was initially tried in Broward County. During that non-jury trial, the State presented witnesses before resting its case and the defense argued lack of venue. The judge ultimately found the defendant not guilty. Before that ruling, the State had already filed the same charge in Palm Beach County based on the same incident. The defense moved to dismiss that case, arguing it violated double jeopardy.
