On January 3, 2026, Santa Fe County Sheriff's Deputy Silva stopped a vehicle for allegedly running a red traffic light. The vehicle was being driven by a 21-year-old woman. The police report indicates that Deputy Silva could smell cannabis and alcohol coming from vehicle. However, the driver denied consuming alcohol. Nonetheless, she was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests, she was placed under arrest. She was transported to the Sheriff's Station, where she provided 2 breath samples, which both registered 0.14% BAC. She was charged with (1) Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor; and (2) Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. On January 5, 2026 (2 days later), both charges were dismissed by the prosecutor without prejudice.
