🚨 Stolen Hyundai & 105 MPH Pursuit — Cass County, Missouri (Nov. 1, 2023) Cass County deputies attempted to stop a blue Hyundai Elantra on I‑49 after seeing it change lanes without signaling and noticing a loose Kansas plate with a Missouri plate underneath. When deputies activated their lights near mile marker 162.8, the driver — Michael A. Woodward — accelerated. Deputies reported speeds reaching 105 mph as the Hyundai continued northbound, passing other vehicles and refusing to yield. A Peculiar Police officer deployed stop sticks at the J Highway exit, which the vehicle struck before entering the median and nearly hitting another motorist. Despite losing tires, the Hyundai continued at high speed until traffic forced it to slow. Deputies then used a Grappler Police Bumper System to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop near mile marker 168.8. Woodward and a passenger were detained without further incident. Investigators later confirmed the Kansas plate was stolen out of Overland Park and the Hyundai was stolen out of Kansas City. Deputies also noted the ignition had been tampered with and could be started using small keys found inside. After being read his rights, Woodward stated he fled because he believed he had outstanding warrants.
