On 8/25/23, at about 10:57 PM, I was traveling southbound on Old Greenwood Road when I observed a maroon SUV traveling northbound that was speeding. I locked it in with my front radar at 54 mph in a 35-mph zone. I immediately activated my lights and made a U-turn. When I did this, the SUV accelerated, ran a red light and began to flee. They drove extremely reckless during this pursuit and reached a speed of 96 mph. The path of the pursuit went as follows: Right at S Gary Street, Straight on Cliff Drive, Struck two civilian vehicles at the intersection of Cliff Drive and County Club Ave (no injuries), Straight on S 58th Street, Right into Hobby Lobby parking lot, Right on Rogers Ave, Left on Burnham Road, Left on Euper Lane- (This is where Trooper Tyler Nelson took over the pursuit), Straight on South S Street, Left through some apartment parking lots, Right on S Waldron Rd, While on S Waldron Road, the SUV pulled into a vacant lot. Three male suspects fled on foot. One of the passengers (Rigoberto Ponce) was immediately caught and placed under arrest. While on scene, a bystander told me that him and his wife just saw a black male wearing black pants, black shirt and white shoes walking on Cliff Drive back towards Old Greenwood Road. They said he looked tired and sweaty and he was trying to get a ride from people. Troopers Josh Porter and Tyler Nelson made contact with the suspect (Brian Stevenson) on Cliff Drive. Trooper Nelson was able to determine Stevenson was the driver of the SUV by reviewing his in-car camera. Stevenson had no driver's license. Ponce had 4 FTA misdemeanor warrants out of Sebastian and Crawford County. The 3rd suspect was not located. The SUV had minor damage to the driver side and passenger side. The driver side front tire was flat and the driver side window was busted out. I had damage to my driver side front tire and rim. Stevenson and Ponce were placed under arrest and taken to the juvenile section of the Sebastian County Detention Center. Trooper Nelson contacted their parents and advised them of the situation. Stevenson was charged with the following: 5-54-125d2: Fleeing in vehicle- Exceeding the speed limit 5-54-125c: Fleeing on foot 27-50-302a: Leaving the scene of an accident with property damage- 2 counts 27-50-308b1B: Reckless driving 1st 5-36-103b2A: Theft by receiving 5,000 to 25,000 or firearm 27-50-302a7: Speeding- 54/35 mph 27-16-602: No driver's license Ponce was charged with the following: 5-36-103b2A: Theft by receiving 5,000 to 25,000 or firearm 5-54-125c: Fleeing on foot
