A man is in custody after an exchange of gunfire with officers on Tuesday. Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Chevy Tahoe that was being investigated for narcotics activity in the 3000 block of Dickerson Pike around 1:00 p.m. After the driver, Demond Buchanan, 45, failed to stop, the vehicle was disabled by police and wrecked. As the Tahoe came to a rest, Buchanan got out and opened fire at Madison Precinct Detectives from the driver's side of the Tahoe. The three officers fired back at Buchanan. Police say that Buchanan unloaded an entire magazine from a pistol as he fired at officers. There are no reported injuries to police personnel or to Buchanan following the incident. Buchanan was taken into custody. Officials say that he had 13 outstanding warrants prior to his arrest. Officials expect Buchanan to face three aggravated assault warrants in addition to drug-related charges. Metro Police tweeted about the incident around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday showing pictures from the scene. No further information is available at this time.
