On April 15, 2026, CHP officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s Southern Division Crime Suppression Team were patrolling in the El Monte area of Los Angeles County when they received a license plate reader alert for a reported stolen gray 2018 Ford F-150. CHP officers located the pickup traveling westbound on Whittier Boulevard and began following it while requesting additional units and air support. Once the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter was overhead, CHP officers attempted a high-risk traffic stop. The driver initially stopped but then drove away, beginning an unusual low-speed pursuit through surface streets. Despite refusing to yield to CHP’s emergency lights and siren, the driver stopped at every traffic light and every stop sign during the pursuit. CHP eventually received authorization to perform a PIT maneuver, bringing the F-150 to a stop on Garfield Avenue near Hay Street. The driver was then taken into custody without further incident. The pursuit covered approximately 1.45 miles, with speeds reaching approximately 35 mph. During the investigation, officers learned the driver’s license was suspended and that there was an outstanding traffic-related warrant. CHP also determined that the driver was the suspect in the stolen vehicle report, and the clothing description reportedly matched what the driver was wearing when arrested. The driver was arrested and transported to the Los Angeles Sheriff's East Los Angeles Station and booked on the following charges: 10851(a) VC — Vehicle Theft 496d(a) PC — Possession of a Stolen Vehicle 2800.1(a) VC — Misdemeanor Evading According to the arrest report, while at the LASD East Los Angeles Station, the driver told the officer the F-150 belonged to her boyfriend and that she had taken it after discovering he had been cheating on her. The report states she said she wanted to “get back at him” and did not care if he reported the truck stolen. California Highway Patrol Officers involved: Officer R. Mcnew ID - 22285 Officer C.
