On January 20, 2025, at approximately 1:35 AM, a Flagler County Sheriff's Office license plate reader flagged a grey 2016 Mercedes SUV registered to a man with a suspended license and a history of fleeing from law enforcement. Deputy Guinup observed the vehicle traveling 81 mph in a 60 mph zone on State Route 11. When Deputy Guinup turned around to attempt a traffic stop, the Mercedes accelerated to approximately 100 mph. The deputy reached 107 mph in his patrol vehicle and the suspect was still pulling away. Sergeant Gamarra deployed tire deflation devices ahead of the vehicle's path under FCSO General Order 023. The Mercedes struck the stop sticks and was disabled near Old Haw Creek Road in Bunnell. The driver, Darielle Lerona Thomas, 34, of Palm Coast, was the only occupant. Deputies smelled burnt marijuana from the vehicle, and a probable cause search located marijuana residue on the floorboard and in the center console. Thomas admitted to smoking marijuana while driving home from Deland. A female deputy was called to conduct a search of Thomas. During the search, Deputy Prevatt felt an anomaly around the vaginal area. Thomas initially denied anything was there but eventually admitted she had concealed a baggy of marijuana inside her body specifically to hide it from law enforcement, post-Miranda. Thomas was charged with tampering with or fabricating physical evidence (felony, FS 918.13.1.A) and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams (misdemeanor, FS 893.13.6.B). She was transported to the Flagler County Inmate Facility. Subscribe to Bodycam Zero for daily bodycam content from agencies across the United States.
