Officers were dispatched to a retail store following a report from loss prevention about a banned individual trespassing on the property. The individual was seen swinging a cane and actively removing product protection from a charger valued at nearly $200. Dispatch advised the responding officers that the suspect had three outstanding warrants across multiple jurisdictions. When police made contact with the individual in the electronics aisle to detain him, he claimed he was being harassed. The situation escalated when the suspect suddenly ran away, leading officers on a foot chase through the clothing aisle and out into the parking lot. Officers caught up with the individual and engaged in a physical struggle on the ground. The suspect actively resisted by pulling his hands away and kicking his legs under a parked vehicle before officers finally secured him in handcuffs. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
