On July 1, 2024, officers responded to a residential complex regarding a report of a young child wandering alone near a roadway. Upon arrival, a witness stated they found the toddler, who was wearing a soiled diaper, walking unattended. Law enforcement located the child's residence where the front door was open and found the mother asleep inside; she admitted to not checking on the child for over eight hours despite knowing he could open doors. Officers observed hazardous conditions, including the child's proximity to a canal and traffic, as well as an unkempt home environment with open alcohol containers. The mother was subsequently arrested and charged with child neglect after presumptively testing positive for a controlled substance.
