On March 30, 2024, Lacey Police Officers were dispatched to Target, where loss prevention agents were surveilling a known shoplifter. 6 weeks prior, the 39-year-old woman had attempted to leave the store with $1,115 worth of unpaid merchandise. Loss Prevention Agents were able to stop the shopping cart that the woman was pushing, but she was able to escape from the scene. The video starts with officers making contact with the woman, who again had a whole shopping cart full of merchandise. She was detained and taken to the loss prevention office, where Officer Jo reviewed the video footage from the February 12th shoplifting event. The woman had numerous unique but delusional excuses. Ultimately, she was charged with theft in the 2nd degree (a felony) and was transported to the Nisqually Correctional Center. She was released from custody but then failed to appear for a court appearance. She was arrested several weeks later and spent 30 days in jail until pleading guilty on July 26, 2024. She was sentenced to time served, placed on probation for 2 years, and was ordered to stay away from Target.
