On March 4, 2023, Little Silver Patrolman Colao observed a vehicle commit numerous violations, including throwing a lit cigarette out the window. He conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver had a very difficult time finding her license. She was asked to step out of the vehicle to perform standardized field sobriety tests, which she failed miserably. She was arrested for DUI and that is when the fun began. Her passenger was became hostile when she was asked to produce an ID (which she was required to do because she was not wearing her seat belt and was subject to receiving a citation). The passenger repeatedly tried to exit the vehicle, but since she was being detained until her identity could be verified, she was forced to remain seated in the passenger seat. Before being released, she had a few choice words for the officers (which are unfortunately bleeped out). Meanwhile, the driver was charged with DUI, refusal to submit to a breath test, reckless driving, careless driving, AND 5 OTHER motor vehicle violations. The case is still pending in Little Silver Municipal Court.
