On February 28, 2025, Rio Rancho Police Officers responded to a single car motor vehicle accident. When the 24-year-old driver admitted to smoking cannabis, Officer Alaniz called for Sgt. Saina to come to the location to initiate a Driving While Under the Influence (DWI) investigation. When Sgt. Saina arrived, he asked the woman to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Sgt. Saina also asked the woman to count backwards and recite the English alphabet. The woman was placed under arrest and was transported to the Rio Rancho Police Station. She refused to provide breath samples, even though she denied consuming alcohol several times. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
