On February 24, 2020, deputies responded to a Winter Park, Florida home after Sarah Boone reported that her boyfriend, 42-year-old Jorge Torres Jr., was unresponsive. Sarah told investigators that the night before, the couple had been drinking wine and playing hide-and-seek when Jorge climbed inside a suitcase. According to Sarah, she zipped the suitcase, eventually went upstairs and fell asleep, believing Jorge could get himself out. But when investigators examined Sarah’s cellphone, they discovered videos recorded that night showing Jorge still trapped inside the suitcase and asking for help. What followed was an intense interrogation as detectives questioned Sarah about the videos, Jorge’s injuries, the changing position of the suitcase and why she walked away while he remained inside. Sarah continued to insist that Jorge’s death was never intentional. In this episode of What’s the Motive, we examine the bodycam footage, Sarah Boone’s police interrogation, cellphone evidence and the investigation that ultimately led to her arrest.
