It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On May 16, 2025, around 10:08 p.m., Officer Nicholas Simons from the Villa Park Police Department caught a radio call. The Elmhurst Police had rushed to Saint Charles Road and West Avenue. They chased a green Bronco weaving wildly. Dispatch said the car swerved at 15 mph below the limit on Spring Road. Then it headed west on Saint Charles Road, past Route 83, into Villa Park. Simons spotted the Bronco drifting west near Saint Charles Road and Ardmore Avenue. The driver kept swerving. He flipped on his lights for a stop. The car pulled over right in front of Moon Massage at 730 E Saint Charles Road in Lombard. The driver turned out to be Cathleen Bendicsen. She said she was driving to a friend's place in Lombard. While they talked, Simons smelled booze on her breath. He saw signs she might be drunk too. Sergeant Bryan Hruby and Officer Michael Raymond showed up soon to help. Hruby knew Cathleen from her old job at Willowbrook High School. He chatted with her for about 20 minutes. He tried to talk her into doing sobriety tests. She confessed to downing three drinks that night. She even mentioned Officer Kordell Kitching, a guy she'd dated before. But Hruby said he couldn't mess with Simons' DUI probe. Cathleen wouldn't budge. She refused to get out and take the tests. Simons had enough. The wild driving, the alcohol smell, her sloppy signs, the drinks she admitted to, and her flat-out refusal all added up. He arrested her for DUI. He cuffed her, put her in the squad car, and drove her to the Villa Park station for booking. There, they read her the Warning to Motorist form. She wouldn't give good breath samples. After processing, they let her go to a friend. She had to wait for court. Charges: Driving under the influence of alcohol, under 625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2). Plus two tickets for improper lane use, under 625 ILCS 5/11-709(a). Records online show Cathleen works now as a counselor at York Community High School in Elmhurst, Illinois. 9:08 They are being way too nice to her. 36:26 What the heck is she wearing cross body? 41:10 Spotify!!
