Little Rock Police Report VICTIM 1/SUSPECT 2 WAS OBSERVED BY SUSPECT 1 FLEEING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED IN VEHICLE 1, WHICH RETURNED AS STOLEN. VEHICLE 1 WAS LATER LOCATED ABANDONED. OFFICERS LOCATED VEHICLE 1, AND OBSERVED VICTIM 1/SUSPECT 2 ENTERING VEHICLE 2. SUSPECT 1 FIRED SEVERAL SHOTS AND STRUCK VICTIM 1/SUSPECT 2. VICTIM 1/SUSPECT 2 WAS TRANSPORTED TO AN AREA HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. SUSPECT 1 PROVIDED A STATEMENT OF THE INCIDENT. A Little Rock police officer is facing felony charges following a shooting that took place early Saturday morning on 09/30/23 Sixth Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Will Jones stated that Officer Johvoni McClendon is facing first-degree battery, a class B felony, and first-degree assault, a class A misdemeanor. He said after an intensive review of the evidence Tuesday, prosecutors approved an affidavit for a felony warrant against McClendon. "There are more than a thousand law enforcement officers courageously serving the citizens of Pulaski County every day," Jones said. " I'm obligated to hold public servants accountable when they betray the law-but more importantly, separate them from the brave men and women who wear the badge with honor and integrity." The shooting happened early Saturday morning, according to police. Brenden Johnson, 20, of Alexander was shot by McClendon while attempting to flee the scene of a vehicle pursuit over the weekend. The pursuit of two suspects in the stolen Dodge Challenger began early Saturday morning before ending at 8401 Mabelvale Pike, police said. Authorities said the officers in pursuit lost sight of the Challenger before finding it abandoned a short time later. "As officers searched the immediate area, a pickup truck was observed circling the area and attempted to leave," police said in a news release. "With weapons drawn, officers cautiously approached the vehicle giving verbal commands instructing the occupants to exit the vehicle." Police said the driver complied with authorities by exiting the vehicle, where Johnson took control while ignoring commands from law enforcement to stop and exit the vehicle. McClendon then fired his handgun, striking Johnson, police said. They added Johnson received medical aid until an ambulance arrived at the scene to transport him to an area hospital. Little Rock Police Chief Heath Helton stated that McClendon's actions were outside of the department's protocol and that the deadly force policy was not followed. This resulted in McClendon being put on leave just hours after the incident pending his detention hearing. Chief Helton stated that the last time an officer was charged in an incident like this was four years ago. follow me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/lrhn_caash/ 😎 follow me on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61564018231627 😎 follow me on twitter https://x.com/LRHN_Cash ✨😎 follow me on tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/@lrhncaash?_t=8fvtVaP3a9u&_r=1 😎✨ Follow me on twitch https://www.twitch.tv/lrhn_cash 🥶 Follow me on Snapchat https://snapchat.com/t/SbtgTt7z 😎 #lrhncash #LRHN
