On 02/14/2026, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle involved in a street takeover in Tampa, but the driver took off, leading troopers on a high-speed chase. According to FHP, the driver reached speeds of more than 100 MPH in 45 MPH zones, ran multiple red lights, and drove recklessly while attempting to evade troopers. During the pursuit, one of the passengers repeatedly asked the driver, Nathan Welch, to let them out of the vehicle. Welch refused to stop and continued driving, leading to a false imprisonment charge. Welch, 21, was arrested and faces charges including felony fleeing to elude, false imprisonment, possession of cannabis sativa resin, and unlawful street racing on a highway.
