He found the driver of a white 2010 Honda Accord. Her name was Madeline. The Honda had heavy front-end damage after striking a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. DiBiase asked Madeline what had happened. She described it as a fender bender. As they spoke, he smelled alcohol on her. Madeline said she had come from Ark Brewery in Lumberton and admitted drinking earlier that evening. Suspecting she was impaired, DiBiase asked her to complete field sobriety tests. He began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Her eyes did not move smoothly, and DiBiase saw clear jerking at the edge of her gaze. The movement also began before 45 degrees. During the Walk and Turn test, Madeline missed heel-to-toe steps and used the wrong number of steps. On the One Leg Stand, she failed to raise her foot correctly and put it down too soon. The crash, her admission, and the failed tests led to her arrest for DUI. Officers placed her in a patrol car, while her Honda was towed for a 12-hour hold under John's Law. DiBiase then took her to the Medford Lakes Police Department for further testing. Madeline agreed to provide breath samples. During the first 20-minute observation period, she vomited, so officers had to begin again. She threw up once more just before the breath test, forcing another restart. When she finally provided a sample, the Alcotest machine stopped working. Because the machine was unavailable, officers drove her to the Evesham Township Police Department. After another 20-minute observation period, she gave new samples. The test reported a 0.14% blood alcohol concentration, nearly twice New Jersey's legal limit of 0.08%. DiBiase later drove Madeline to her apartment. Her fiancé signed a liability form, and she was released until her court date. She received summonses for DUI, reckless driving, and driving without registration. Court records show that Madeline pleaded guilty to DUI on September 14, 2023. She spent 12 hours at a drunk-driver resource center and paid $640 in fines. The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Please like, subscribe, and support this channel.
