Lake City Councilman Jake Hill Jr. was pulled over after officers said his temporary license plate was not clearly visible through his dark-tinted rear window. The traffic stop became confrontational, and after Hill later complained that he had been mistreated, Lake City Police publicly played the bodycam footage during a City Council workshop for transparency. During the encounter, Hill told the officer he had “zero driver’s license,” questioned the reason for the stop, and told the officer to “get ready to stop me again” after discussing the placement of the license plate. He ultimately received a citation and was not arrested. After the footage became public, Hill apologized for his behavior and said he regretted how he handled the encounter. Hill remained on the Lake City Council for several more years. In the August 2024 District 12 election, Tammy Harris received 195 votes and Hill received 189, a margin of just six votes.
