Randy Cox, the man who was left paralyzed from the chest down during a police transport. Dashcam and interior footage show officers driving a police van without securing him with a seatbelt and then slamming on the brakes to avoid another car. The sudden stop sent Cox headfirst into a metal wall, snapping his neck. Even worse, as he begged for help saying he could not move, officers reportedly dismissed and mocked him instead of getting immediate medical attention. The fallout has been huge. Several officers were fired, one pled guilty to reckless endangerment, and the city agreed to a $45 million dollar settlement with Cox and his family. The case even pushed Connecticut to change its laws, now requiring all detainees to be secured with seatbelts during transport. It is a chilling reminder of how one careless moment and a lack of compassion can destroy a life forever.
