On December 14, 2025, shortly after noon, California Highway Patrol officers were monitoring traffic speeds along U.S. Highway 199 near the Collier Tunnel in northern California. Officers observed a blue Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound well above the posted 55 mile per hour limit while passing other vehicles. Radar readings indicated the truck was traveling at approximately 77 miles per hour. Officers initiated a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled into the Collier Tunnel rest area without incident. During the stop, officers contacted the male driver and conducted a records check. The investigation revealed the driver’s license had been suspended out of Oregon due to a prior DUI-related restriction requiring an ignition interlock device.
