The man shot was transported to the hospital. McManus said the incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. outside the McDonald's in the 11700 block of Blanco Road, not far from West Avenue and Parliament Road. He said an officer responded to a disturbance in the area when he noticed a vehicle that fled from him the night before. When the officer approached the vehicle on foot, the driver attempted to drive away and hit the officer in the legs with his car in the process. That's when the officer fired several shots at the driver, hitting the man multiple times as he continued to drive away. The driver stopped down the street. He was taken to University Hospital in critical condition where he was lasted reported to be in surgery, McManus said. The officer involved in the shooting was hit in the legs but was treated at the scene, McManus said. McManus did not reveal the identity of the officer but said he has been with the department for a little more than a year. He's been placed on administrative duty, which is standard for any officer involved in a shooting. The identity and age of the man who was shot were not released at this time.
