He found the driver of a white 2010 Honda Accord. Her name was Madeline. The Honda had bad front-end damage from hitting a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. DiBiase asked Madeline what happened. She called it a fender bender. While they talked, he smelled alcohol on her. Madeline said she came from Ark Brewery in Lumberton. She admitted drinking earlier that night. He suspected she was impaired, so he had her do field sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. DiBiase saw no smooth eye movement. Nystagmus jerked clearly at the edge and started before 45 degrees. Next was the Walk and Turn. Madeline missed heel-to-toe steps and took the wrong number. Last, the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right and dropped it too soon. The crash, her alcohol admission, and failed tests led to her arrest for DUI. They put her in the patrol car. Her car got towed for a 12-hour hold under John's Law. DiBiase took her to Medford Lakes Police for more steps. There, Madeline agreed to breath tests. During the first 20-minute watch, she vomited. They started over. Right before the breathalyzer, she threw up again. Another restart. When she finally blew, the Alcotest broke. With the machine down, they drove her to Evesham Township Police. After a new 20-minute wait, she gave samples. The test showed 0.14% BAC—almost twice the 0.08% limit. DiBiase then drove her home to her apartment. Her fiancé signed a liability form. She went free until court. She got tickets for DUI, reckless driving, and no registration. Court files show Madeline pled guilty to DUI on September 14, 2023. She spent 12 hours at a drunk driver center and paid $640 in fines. The other tickets got dropped in the deal. Please like, subscribe, and support this channel. Email for details.
