In the early morning hours of February 4, 2023, Hillsborough police responded to a call about a disabled vehicle sitting near the intersection of Wertsville Road and Montgomery Road in Hillsborough, New Jersey. When Officer Lawrence arrived, he immediately noticed the car appeared damaged — the front passenger-side tire was blown out, and the vehicle had scratches and dents consistent with recent impact. The officer then made contact with the driver, who was later identified as 33-year-old Abigail Bickar. During the initial conversation, Bickar told police she was coming from a friend’s house and denied drinking alcohol. But as the interaction continued, officers reportedly observed vomit inside the driver’s area and noted signs that she may be impaired. Because of those observations, Officer Lawrence asked Bickar to perform standard field sobriety tests.
