Heading north on Bay Avenue, he saw a white 2016 Honda Civic strike a utility pole along the sidewalk near Kohr Brothers, between Eighth Street and Taylor Avenue. The Honda tried to leave but stopped near Ninth Street and Bay Avenue. Lucas approached and saw that the car's airbags had deployed. Patrolwoman Ashley Stahl soon arrived to help. Stahl spoke with the driver, a 21-year-old named Taylor, who had a passenger in the car. Both had wristbands from Bird and Betty's. Taylor appeared intoxicated. Stahl requested her license and registration, then asked her to exit the vehicle for field sobriety testing. During the Walk and Turn test, Taylor had trouble placing her heel against her toe. She took too many steps and failed to keep her arms at her sides. On the One Leg Stand, she could not properly raise her foot and put it down before the test ended. The Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test also showed signs of intoxication. Taylor was arrested for DUI after the crash, her admission that she had been drinking, and her poor test results. Stahl brought her to the police station for processing. Her passenger received a courtesy ride and waited in the lobby. Paramedics examined Taylor at the station, but she refused hospital treatment. Stahl read her the standard statement given to drivers, and Taylor agreed to provide breath samples. More than an hour after the crash, her BAC measured 0.07%. She may have been over the legal limit when she was driving. After processing, officers released her to her father, who signed a form accepting responsibility for her. Taylor received several tickets, including DUI, careless driving, failing to report an accident, leaving the scene of property damage, and driving without registration. Court records show that her DUI charge was dismissed on November 6, 2023. The careless driving charge was changed to reckless driving, and Taylor pleaded guilty to failing to report the crash.
