On July 14, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM in Sacramento, California, a disturbing 911 call launched one of the most intense and shocking encounters caught on police bodycam. The caller? The suspect himself — a man named Fred — who calmly told dispatchers he had a sword and planned to kill his friend. Police raced to the scene near Occidental and Julliard Drives in Sacramento’s College Glen neighborhood. When they arrived, they found the man outside, sword in hand, refusing to comply with repeated commands to disarm. Crisis negotiators and officers spent nearly 30 minutes attempting to deescalate the situation, urging the man to surrender peacefully. But instead of backing down, the suspect removed the sword from its sheath and charged the officers while swinging it wildly. This video captures the actual 911 call, followed by unedited police bodycam footage of the confrontation. It’s a front-row seat to the tension, chaos, and split-second decisions officers are forced to make when lives hang in the balance. As the suspect charged forward, officers deployed less-lethal munitions, but he kept advancing. One officer was left with no choice but to discharge his firearm. The man was struck, taken into custody, and received immediate medical aid at the scene. He was transported to the hospital, where he was initially listed in stable condition. As of July 27, he remains in critical condition and faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and resisting arrest. No officers were injured in the incident. This dramatic event raises powerful questions about mental health, law enforcement response, and the unpredictable nature of police work. Why would someone call the police on themselves, only to escalate the situation?
