A bad car crash with injuries waited there. They arrived under a tunnel below a rail bridge. Two vehicles had collided: a 2008 Chevrolet Impala and a 2023 Hyundai Tucson. Officer Balli spotted a male witness first. The man said the Impala's female driver looked impaired. Balli then approached her. He learned her name was Nikia Banks. As they talked, alcohol breath hit him. Other clues showed she was drunk. Nikia said she drove to grab her baby daddy from work. She blamed the Hyundai for the hit. She owned up to drinks that night. Suspicion grew. Balli asked for sobriety tests. He began with Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus. No smooth eye tracking. Jerky shakes at full turn. Starts shook before 45 degrees. Next came Walk and Turn. No heel-to-toe steps. Poor pivot. Last was One Leg Stand. Foot not raised right. She dropped it too soon. Crash. Booze smell. Her admission. Failed tests. Balli cuffed her for OVI.
