June 23, 2024, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) notified COPA of an incident that took place in the 8100 block of S. Hermitage Avenue. The incident began when two on-duty Chicago Police Officers were responding to call of a person with a gun. Once officers arrived, they were informed that the individual struck a person with a gun and fled. Officers patrolled the area, eventually locating the individual and in their attempt to apprehend the individual, they fled on foot. Officers gave verbal commands and pursued the individual on foot, leading to an encounter that resulted in the individual falling to the ground, where they sustained a serious head injury and were transported to the hospital. A gun was recovered from the scene.
