On December 7, 2024, a Lake County deputy was stationary in the area of US Hwy 441 and State Road 46, Mount Dora, when a vehicle passed him at approximately 95 mph. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle for speeding and having no operating taillights at night. While speaking with the driver, later identified as Jeremy Fountain, he fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was not pursued, and the traffic stop was terminated. Moments later, a Mount Dora officer located the vehicle crashed in Tavares, where Fountain bailed on foot. Multiple units, including the Lake County Street Crimes Unit, Tavares PD, and Mount Dora PD officers, responded for a perimeter. Lake County Aviation also responded and assisted with locating the suspect hiding in a block of woods. A Lake County K-9 ultimately apprehended Fountain. It was determined that Fountain had never had a driver's license and spontaneously uttered that he fled because the vehicle was stolen. The subject was arrested, transported to the Lake County Jail, and charged accordingly. The subjects in these videos are to be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
