Flock cameras record passing vehicles. But when a reporter tried to document their installation, a Flock worker called police. Atlanta News First chief investigator Brendan Keefe was stopped in Milton, Georgia, after following a Flock installer at a distance, hoping to film the next installation. Keefe says the encounter lasted about seventeen minutes, and he was released without charges. In a separate incident in Smyrna, a Flock employee called police on people filming outside the company’s distribution center—including security researcher Benn Jordan. That call included a remarkably friendly exchange: “We need a favor.” This video examines the bodycam footage, 911 calls, Flock’s response, and the questions residents should ask about surveillance vendors and the police departments buying their products. Flock says it does not object to public photography of its cameras or personnel. It also says workers may contact police when they believe they face threats, harassment, following, or other safety concerns. The Smyrna encounter resulted in an official trespass warning and no charges. What should police verify before stopping someone documenting a surveillance company’s work? Tell me in the comments. 🎥 ORIGINAL REPORTING & CREDIT Credit to Brendan Keefe and Atlanta News First Investigates for obtaining the records and reporting these encounters.
