A daycare teacher in Homewood, Illinois was fired and criminally charged after CCTV footage revealed she placed a 4-year-old child in a garbage can during nap time — and left him outside in an alley in 19-degree weather without proper clothing. The child later told his mother he had "slept in a garbage can." She reported it to police, and the surveillance footage confirmed everything. The teacher, Anna Petrou, told investigators the child had been disruptive during nap time and that she placed him in the garbage can "in an attempt to keep him still." She admitted to the garbage can but did not disclose the outdoor exposure until confronted with the footage. She was terminated the following day and subsequently charged.
