Illinois State Police officers were alerted at approximately 9:35 a.m. on February 6 to a vehicle traveling on Interstate 74 in Champaign. Authorities suspected the vehicle had been involved in an armed robbery in Texas. Around 10:30 a.m., the vehicle stopped at a Casey's gas station off Interstate 55 in Lexington. One of the occupants, 19-year-old Joseph Martin Hernandez of Texas, exited the vehicle and entered the gas station. Surveillance footage captured police arresting Hernandez and attempting to detain the driver, 18-year-old Ryan Aeron Stanley Hurst of Arkansas. Officers surrounded the vehicle from a distance and fired multiple shots. According to Police, Hurst raised a firearm at officers, prompting an exchange of gunfire. The video footage shows Hurst pointing what appears to be a gun at the approaching officers. Hurst sustained injuries in the shooting and later exited the vehicle. Officers handcuffed him, provided first aid, and transported him to a hospital. McLean County prosecutors charged Hurst with three counts of attempted first-degree murder, four counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and one count of aggravated assault. Following his discharge from the hospital, Hurst was ordered to remain in custody while awaiting trial. He is currently held at the McLean County Detention Center. Hernandez was not injured and was also taken into custody for further investigation. 0:00 - Preview 0:08 - Events description 0:31 - Police dashcam 1:07 - Shooting 1:12 - Slow motion and zoom 1:42 - Officer bodycam 1:50 - Shooting 8:35 - Suspect arrest #IllinoisStatePolice #PoliceShooting #CrimeNews #IllinoisCrime #GasStationArrest #BreakingNews #Interstate74 #McLeanCounty #TexasRobbery #LawEnforcement #PoliceStandoff #CrimeUpdate #SuspectArrested Disclaimer: The following content contains graphic scenes of violence that may be disturbing to some viewers.
