On November 30, 2023, Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Lawson stopped a vehicle for allegedly having a lamp out that illuminates the license plate. The vehicle was being driven by a 20-year-old woman. The police report indicates that Trooper Lawson could smell the odor of raw cannabis coming from the vehicle. He asked the driver to step out of her vehicle. She initially indicated that she last smoked the day before. She completed a series of field sobriety tests, which included a portable breath test. However, Trooper Lawson felt she was under the influence of cannabis, so she was placed under arrest. She had two male passengers in her vehicle and one of them admitted to having a small amount of marijuana with him. He was given a citation for possession. At the Highway Patrol Post, the woman agreed to provide a urine specimen. She was ultimately charged with Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI) and Failure to Illuminate a License Plate. On April 9, 2024, she pleaded guilty to an amended charge of Willful or Wanton Disregard of Safety of Persons or Property. She was fined $271.00.
