On June 17, 2024, Berkeley Township Police Department officers responded to Central Regional High School in Berkeley Township, New Jersey, after reports of an altercation in the parking lot. Patrolman Thomas Eichen observed 18-year-old Ava Bacchione yelling at another individual, throwing a phone, and striking him multiple times in the back of the head. As both students were adults and in a relationship, the incident was treated as a domestic case, leading to Bacchione's arrest for simple assault. Surveillance footage reportedly showed Bacchione initiating the physical confrontation. This bodycam footage captures officers attempting to de-escalate an emotional Ava Bacchione after her arrest at the high school. As an officer tries to offer her water and first aid, Bacchione expresses her feelings of being unheard and uncared for, stating, "I don't care you guys don't care."
