Suisun City police bodycam footage shows a welfare check at the wrong address spiral after Officer Cody Marlar makes a disrespectful comment to U.S. Army Sergeant Cyrah Hawkins about his wife. What began as a medical welfare check involving a possible child ingestion of nail polish remover quickly turned into a tense police encounter. Officers Tiffany Konoma and Cody Marlar arrived at Hawkins’ home after a call connected to North Bay Medical Center, but the situation escalated almost immediately when Marlar asked whether the woman inside was Hawkins’ “girlfriend or baby mama.” Spotlight Moments: ⦁ Sergeant Hawkins challenges the officers after the first comment at his door. ⦁ The welfare check confusion grows after police realize they may have the wrong address. ⦁ Officer Marlar tells Hawkins to “eat it,” escalating the confrontation further. ⦁ Officer Konoma attempts to explain the call and calm the situation down. ⦁ Marlar later returns to apologize, but the footage still goes viral. ⦁ Suisun City Police issue a public apology, and Marlar is no longer employed by the department. This case matters because it shows how tone, respect, and communication can change the entire direction of a police encounter. A routine welfare check became national conversation because of what happened in the first few seconds.
