On Thursday, December 5, 2024, officers with a Florida police department initiated a traffic stop on a black Mercedes-Benz SUV for a window tint violation. During the investigation, officers discovered that the registered owner had an active warrant for failure to appear. When an officer attempted to detain the driver, she accelerated the vehicle in reverse in an attempt to flee. The open driver’s side door struck the officer, pinning him against the frame and dragging him until he fell, at which point the vehicle’s front tire drove over his right leg. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a fence, and the suspect fled on foot. Despite his injuries, the officer pursued and tackled the driver, who continued to physically resist until assisting units arrived. The suspect was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Arrest with Violence, and Violation of Probation.
