Officers were dispatched to a local retail store after a loss prevention employee reported that a male suspect had bypassed all points of sale with over five hundred dollars worth of merchandise. The unpaid items included twenty-two vinyl records and a one-pound bag of sugar. The suspect was last seen on security cameras heading toward a nearby transit stop, where detectives successfully detained a person matching the provided physical description. During the ensuing street-level investigation, the detained individual voluntarily handed over multiple credit cards and a New York driver's license, none of which belonged to him. The individual claimed they possessed the financial cards with the intent to mail them back to their rightful owners at a later time. After reviewing the security footage, law enforcement positively identified the individual as the shoplifting suspect and placed them under arrest for the theft and the unlawful possession of the financial cards. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty
