On May 27, 2024, Pullman Police Officers responded to a theft-in-progress at Walmart. Loss Prevention Agents called to report that two shoplifters were running away after being confronted in the parking lot. Loss Prevention reported that they had arrived in a U-Haul truck. Officers Romero and Gerber located a U-Haul truck and initiated a traffic stop. That is when the driver of the U-Haul began a series of lies that would ultimately lead to his arrest by Officer Padrta. Police then set out to locate and two shoplifters who had fled from Walmart. Officer Padrta eventually located the man and woman and they were also arrested. It turns out that they had previously received a lifetime ban from Walmart so their shoplifting charge was elevated to felony burglary. Both of them were eventually transported to the Whitman County Jail, while the driver of the U-Haul was released with citations for 5 misdemeanor offenses.
