The incident occurred in the early hours of December 25, 2024, when police responded to a disturbance at the Valley Breeze-In. A caller, a private security guard, reported that 30-year-old Ashley Rae Johnston was screaming at people and had threatened them with a hammer shortly before 5:30 a.m. When Juneau Police Department officers arrived, Johnston was standing in the parking lot holding a hatchet. As the first officer stepped out of his patrol car, she immediately walked toward him. Despite repeated verbal commands to drop the hatchet, she continued advancing. When a second officer arrived, Johnston kept moving forward while yelling “shoot” multiple times. The first officer called for emergency backup while continuing to order her to drop the weapon. She ignored the commands and kept approaching. A Taser was deployed, striking Johnston, but the impact ignited a lighter hanging from her chest, causing a brief flash of flames. The Taser failed to stop her. As a third officer arrived, Johnston moved aggressively toward the first officer. In response, he discharged his firearm, striking her. Lifesaving efforts were performed by Capital City Fire/Rescue, but Johnston was pronounced dead at the scene. 0:00 - Preview 0:10 - Events description 0:25 - Officer 1 bodycam 0:58 - Taser & flames 1:04 - Shooting 2:11 - Officer 2 bodycam 3:35 - Officer 3 bodycam #JuneauPolice #PoliceShooting #LawEnforcement #CrimeNews #BreakingNews #SelfDefense #TaserIncident #OfficerInvolvedShooting #AlaskaNews #PublicSafety #CrimeReport #PoliceResponse #WeaponThreat #NewsUpdate #IncidentReport #AshleyRaeJohnston Disclaimer: The following content contains graphic scenes of violence that may be disturbing to some viewers.
