On November 21, 2025, California Highway Patrol officers in Smith River, California conducted a traffic stop on a white Saturn Aura traveling along US-101 after a CHP officer observed the vehicle driving without a functioning license plate light. During the stop, the officer observed signs of impairment including slurred speech, red watery eyes, and the odor of alcohol and marijuana. The driver refused to provide identification, declined field sobriety tests, and resisted officers during the detention. Officers arrested the driver for suspicion of driving under the influence.
