On March 22nd, 2023, officers with the Teaneck Police Department (NJ) responded to the area of 545 Cedar Lane for a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon their arrival, they observed the remnants of a three car motor vehicle accident in which the at-fault party had fled the scene and was outstanding. After rendering aid to the other involved parties and speaking with witnesses on scene, officers were directed to an alleyway around the corner from the accident scene where the outstanding suspect was last observed. One caller stated they observed a male individual flee into the alleyway and believed him to be hiding behind crates. After several minutes of searching, officers located the suspect in question, Mr. Felix Veloz, unconscious in an empty dumpster. Mr. Veloz was removed and regained consciousness immediately. He was then evaluated by medical professionals during which time he became verbally argumentative and uncooperative. He was later transported to a local hospital for further medical evaluation after he was deemed unable to answer several basic questions. While at the hospital, officers applied for and obtained a telephonic search warrant for a sample of Mr. Veloz’s blood. He was later charged with DUI. Further inspection of the contents of the vehicle Mr. Veloz operated showed an empty bottle of Casamigos Tequila (50 ml) and a clear plastic bag of green vegetation believed to be marijuana. Officers on location determined that Mr. Veloz was traveling eastbound on Cedar Lane at a high rate of speed when he disregarded a traffic control device at the intersection of Lincoln Place. Within the intersection, his vehicle made contact with vehicle two, which caused vehicle one to continue eastbound on Cedar Lane, flipping several times in the process. Vehicle one later made contact with vehicle three, which was parked unoccupied along the northern side of the roadway. Vehicle one came to stop just after flipping over vehicle 3. Mr. Veloz was issued the following citations and later released with a pending court date: Traffic: 39:4-40 / DUI 39:4-96 / Reckless Driving 39:4-129a / Leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury 39:4-130 / Failure to report an accident 39:4-81 / Failure to observe a traffic control device 39:4-51b / Open container alcohol or unseal cannabis in motor vehicle Criminal: 2C:12-1C(2) / Assault by Auto (4th degree/two counts) ______________________________________________ All videos and case documents were obtained pursuant to the New Jersey Open Public Records Act, N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 et seq. (P.L. 2001, c. 404). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. This channel is made strictly for educational and news gathering purposes.
