Colin Gray, the father of the 14-year-old student charged with opening fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, and killing four people, told law enforcement in 2023 that his son had been bullied and tormented by classmates, including being called "gay," according to Fox News. These statements were made during a police interrogation following FBI claims that his then-13-year-old son, Colt Gray, was responsible for online threats of a school shooting. In the transcripts obtained by Fox News, Colin Gray described the difficulties his son faced, saying, "Colt's been through a lot… It was very hard for him to go to school and not be picked on. It started with one thing and escalated; he was just trying to talk to the few friends he had." Colin further elaborated on the bullying, saying he felt his son was "ridiculed," and recounted efforts to involve Colt in activities like the golf team, only to have him mocked with comments such as, "Oh look, Colt's gay. He's dating that guy." Colin described the relentless nature of the harassment. Both Colt and Colin Gray are facing charges related to the shooting that resulted in the deaths of two students and two teachers, with nine others injured. Colt is charged with murder, while Colin is accused of second-degree murder for allegedly providing his son with a semi-automatic AR-15-style rifle despite knowing his son posed a threat to himself and others. A hearing on Friday resulted in both father and son remaining in jail, with no bond requested by their attorneys.
