A 21-year-old woman, Elenor Diane Nichols, was stopped in Pullman, Washington after failing to stop at a stop sign. What started as a minor traffic violation quickly turned into a DUI arrest that changed everything for her that night. At first, Elenor denied drinking — claiming she was only picking up her friends. But as the officer noticed the strong odor of alcohol, the truth began to unfold. After performing several field sobriety tests (HGN, Walk-and-Turn, One-Leg Stand), her coordination and eye movements clearly showed signs of impairment. Moments later, a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) revealed a BAC of 0.132%, which is 1.6 times over the legal limit (0.08%). She was arrested on the spot and transported to the station for a formal Evidentiary Breath Test, showing results of 0.128% and 0.129%. Months later, Elenor pled guilty to Driving Under the Influence.
