Martin County deputies respond to a two-vehicle crash at a roundabout near Sea Turtle Beach in Jensen Beach, Florida on September 17, 2025. The woman involved is shaky, coughing, and repeatedly volunteers that she's sober before anyone asks — "I'm sober now. I am definitely not the firecracker I was." She can't produce proof of insurance, has no phone service, and struggles to explain what happened. The other driver, meanwhile, opens his tailgate to show deputies a cooler of twelve unopened beers and offers to be tested on the spot: "There's no alcohol in my system. Go ahead and test me, whatever you want." Off to the side, a deputy who has dealt with the woman for years tells another unit exactly what he thinks: "Every time I've ever dealt with her, she's under the influence." A DUI investigator is called in — but before he can run roadside exercises, she decides she wants to go to the hospital by ambulance. The deputy's answer is simple: "I'll see you at the hospital." At the ER she refuses a blood test, then signs herself out and starts walking down the sidewalk. Deputies were watching. When the DUI deputy stops her and asks her to perform roadside exercises, she refuses again and asks for a lawyer. She's placed in handcuffs, insisting the whole way that she's done nothing wrong: "I'm on the sidewalk. I'm not staggering. I'm not driving anything. Why are you arresting me for walking home?" The kicker — deputies determined the other driver failed to yield and was at fault for the crash. He drove away with a ticket and advice about pleading no contest. She left in the back of a patrol car.
