Miami-Dade Detective Donovan Rojas drove his agency vehicle at 111 MPH during a five-mile police chase, with firearms, radios and department equipment inside. Then he asked fellow officers to take care of their own. The off-duty detective denied seeing the emergency lights, refused field sobriety exercises and repeatedly insisted he pulled over as soon as he noticed police behind him. Bodycam footage captured every contradiction. • Speeds through Monroe County at up to 111 MPH • Stops after an officer follows him for nearly five miles • Reveals he is a cop while being ordered onto his knees • Refuses sobriety exercises and later declines the breathalyzer • Calls the police union for legal guidance on a Sunday night • Asks fellow officers for professional courtesy because cops should protect their own This police bodycam case exposes the tension between professional loyalty and equal enforcement. Rojas said he would have taken another officer home under the same circumstances. The arresting officers refused, pointing to their cameras, supervisors and the documented chase. A Monroe County jury later found Rojas not guilty of DUI and felony fleeing, but convicted him of misdemeanor reckless driving. Miami-Dade police reported that he remained suspended without pay while Internal Affairs reviewed the case. Like, comment, share and subscribe to Casepoint for more police accountability cases.
