What started as a late-night argument in Downtown Atlanta quickly turned into a chaotic Christmas Eve encounter involving a woman, her boyfriend, and an Uber driver who was simply trying to help her get away. According to Atlanta Police, officers responded to 740 W. Peachtree Street NW around 3:48 AM on December 24, 2023. Police say the woman told officers she attempted to leave after an argument, but her boyfriend chased her down the street. An Uber driver arriving to pick her up told police he heard her screaming, saw the confrontation unfolding, and helped her get into his vehicle. But the Uber driver soon became part of the incident himself. According to the report, after the driver told the man to get out of his vehicle, the man allegedly turned around and SWUNG ON the Uber driver . The driver wanted to prosecute, while the woman declined medical treatment and initially did not want to prosecute. A witness at the scene also gave police an account of what she saw. Atlanta Police ultimately arrested Eric Evans-Wooten, and the case resulted in accusations for battery and simple battery. Now you can watch the encounter unfold through the responding officers’ body-worn cameras.
